Chapter Books General Fiction Horror Inspirational Juvenile Fiction Juvenile Nonfiction Mystery Romance Science Fiction Teen Western ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I liked how there was a sense of mystery in the beginning. I enjoyed reading this story about 12 princesses who disappear each night to a fantasy world. Lina chose to marry Michael even though he was just a peasant, she loved him regardless. I think the main message of the story is that it’s okay to love someone from different socio-economic backgrounds. Adding this tension in the plot made the book more interesting. She did this when the sisters were deciding what to do with Michael, to have him killed or let him marry Lina. The author took her time building the story so that it caused some tension when the story reached the climax. The plot was organized and flowed nicely. I thought the author wrote the story well. My second reason for liking the book is the plot. For example, when the author was describing Michael slipping into Lina’s boat I could visualize her dancing partner struggling to row the boat and Lina questioning his strength. ![]() When reading the text I had an easy time imaging the story. I thought the language was very descriptive and clear. I liked this book because of the language and the how the author chose to write the plot. In my opinion, this is a well written book. ![]() ![]() ![]() Suddenly Addie finds herself on a whirlwind tour of the Emerald Isle, trapped in the world's smallest vehicle with Ian and his admittedly cute, Irish-accented friend Rowan. In addition to photographing nature he worked hard for the preservation of nature and was on the board of the Sierra Club. A visit to Yosemite Valley when he was a boy inspired his greatest work - landscape photographs of the American West. The f/64 photographers believed that maximum depth of field, glossy paper and sharp focus emphasized the "actualities and limitations of the photographic medium."Īnsel Adams was born in San Francisco. The name is based on the fact that f/64 is the smallest lens aperture of a large-format camera and gives the greatest depth-of-field. In 1930 he founded the group f/64 with Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston and other photographers. ![]() Imagine removing that cloud - how does it change the picture?Īnsel Adams was interested in making photographs that "looked like photographs," rather than other art forms. Yet a dark cloud over the mountains adds drama. While Stieglitz uses natural elements such as mist and shadows to create a mysterious mood, Adams' picture shows nature in full sunlight. It is interesting to compare this picture to Icy Night by Alfred Stieglitz. The image seems to go on to infinity, absolutely sharp and clear. ![]() Tetons and the Snake River is one of Ansel Adams' great western landscape photographs. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Isabelle’s brother, George, and many others talk of a rebellion against the royal family, and they all have different reasons. In addition, Allison uses photos to highlight gaps and silences in the stories that the Gibson family members told about themselves. Two or three things I know for sure, and one of them is that of we are not beautiful to each other, we cannot know beauty in any form(86). By showing her mother at these different ages, Allison reinforces the notion that Southern women evolve-rather than being frozen in the past and incapable of being agents in their own lives-no matter how limited their choices due to economic inequality. Two or Three Things I Know For Sure Allison illuminates the fact that we as women must appreciate each other and our beauty before we can truly cherish other forms of beauty around us. ![]() For example, Allison includes photos of her mother as a traditionally beautiful and happy adolescent, as a stylishly dressed young woman, as a smiling young mother and (eventually) as the buttoned-up, sometimes dour Gibson family matriarch. Allison incorporates these photos in the memoir and uses them to deepen her representation of women in her family and herself as something more than the stereotypical Southern woman (an unloved, unbeautiful source of labor and children). The most significant inheritance that Allison received from her mother on Ruth’s death includes photographs that symbolize Allison’s relationship to her family, particularly the women in her family. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Inside, you’ll find hundreds of brand-new features, recipes, and variations, like Slow-Simmered Beef Chili, My New Favorite Fried Chicken, and Eggs Poached in Tomato Sauce plus old favorites from the previous editions, in many cases reimagined with new methods or flavors.
